Having gone undefeated for the past month, a very talented Blair Boys’ Varsity Soccer team had their playoff title bid cut short, as they fell to Urbana 0-1 in the 4A North Sectional finals.
All told, the 2018 Blazers squad had a great season and put up some excellent numbers, especially as they improved together in the latter half of the season. They were undefeated since October 1st, when they suffered their 3rd and final loss in the regular season to Sherwood. Since then, they notched an impressive 5 wins and 1 tie in the last 6 regular-season games, with 16 “goals for”, just 3 “goals against”, and 4 clean sheets.
Blair’s 8-3-1 record gave them a #2 seed (behind Urbana) in the 4A North Section playoff bracket, and a “bye” for the first round. They defeated Paint Branch 1-0 at home in the second playoff round.
We will miss the great play from our seniors, and wish them luck wherever they decide to play next year. We look forward to continued growth and success in the Blair Soccer program, and the possible return of this year’s underclassmen: Oscar Avelar-Salmeron, Hector Cruz-Santos, “Gio” Garcia Lopez, Eli Geist, Joao Gonzalez, Brennan Moore, Silas Reitsma, Walter Sosa, and Nate Tesfaw (as well as the talented JV squad).
