Game Recap

The Girls Varsity Soccer team was ready to play, after the game with Rockville was postponed due to lightning earlier in the week. The Blazers came out firing on all cylinders, and had a 3-0 lead just six minutes into the match. Senior captain Nina Jeffries started the scoring parade on an assist from junior captain Maddy Merrill in the second minute. Merrill scored a minute later on an assist from freshman Elise Kinyanjui. The goal was Merrill’s 25th of her career. Jeffries took a pass from senior Aida Ayuk and lashed a thunderous left foot past the helpless Wolverine goalkeeper for the third goal. Watkins Mill notched their only goal of the night on a defensive lapse by the, otherwise solid, Blazer defense in the seventeenth minute. Jeffries powered her way through the Wolverine back line just before half time to finish off her hat trick and give the Blazers a 4-1 cushion at halftime. Jeffries leads the team this season with 5 goals in 3 games. After a lull to start the second half, junior Sierra Kamara scored her first goal of the season with Merrill dishing out the assist. Sophomore DeDe Greenfield came to live on the left side late in the game, scoring her first and second goal of the season on assists from sophomore Janie Pitner and Merrill. Merrill ended the game with three assists.
